An exciting opportunity exists for an Advisor on Deaf Children to work in a 0.5 FTE permanent position as part of a friendly and supportive team of professionals.


Applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced Advisors on Deaf Children to work within the Manawatū-Whanganui area providing a range of services that support children who are Deaf or hard of hearing. The successful applicant will have strong relationship building skills and will be able to work effectively with children and young people, their whānau, educators and other health and support services.


They will also need to work within the goals and policies of the Ministry of Education, work in accordance with Te Whāriki and the NZ Curriculum, demonstrate sensitivity to cultural diversity and possess a strong commitment to the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi. 


The appointee will have successfully completed the training for Advisors on Deaf Children, or have a relevant equivalent qualification and experience. They will also have knowledge of or be willing to learn New Zealand Sign Language.


An experienced Teacher of the Deaf, Special Education Advisor or Speech-Language Therapist may be considered for the position but will be required to complete suitable training to a Masters level. A Ministry of Education Study Award may be available to support the appointee undertaking this training.
