About us

Education Infrastructure Service (EIS) as a part of the Ministry manages one of the largest property portfolios in New Zealand, composed of over 2,100 primary and secondary State schools and over 8,000 hectares of land with a carrying value of $17.2 billion.  EIS is also responsible for managing school payroll, school transport and for the delivery of information communication technology in schools.  EIS undertakes around 3,000 projects per annum; a combination of Ministry and School led projects costing at least $800m per annum.

About the role

As a key and senior member of the EIS Risk and Assurance team, you will bring a systematic, disciplined approach to evaluate and improve the effectiveness of the group's key risk management, control and governance processes.  You will be the subject matter expert, leading the development and delivery of an annual programme of assurance activities that span the entire strategic and operational activities of Education Infrastructure Service (EIS).  You will be specifically focused on meeting the requirements of the mandated EIS Risk and Assurance Framework.

Your key priorities will include: 

  • the provision of special advice in assurance (and associated audit and compliance activities) to EIS managers and staff
  • leading the coordinated oversight and delivery of assurance activities and annual assurance programme
  • leading and managing a small team of assurance and compliance specialists.

About you

With proven experience in an auditing or consulting environment, you will have a tertiary qualification and a passion for providing commercial insights and learning about what makes an organisation tick. You will be a strategic thinker and have the ability to apply sound methodologies to your work. A self-starter, you will be highly motivated and enjoy working as part of a professional and commercially focused team. Excellent communication skills are a must and you will be adept at building strong key stakeholder relationships; constructively challenging established beliefs whilst providing solutions to your internal customers

  • Strong, quiet leadership skills, knowing when to lead from the front and when to lend a helping hand from behind the scenes.
