Fulltime permanent position based in Rotorua (Bay of Plenty - Waiariki)

Kia hiwa ra! Ka hiwa ra!

Do you have a passion for improving educational achievement for all students/children, particularly Māori, Pasifika and those with Learning Support needs?

Are you currently in the education sector and need a new challenge?

Now is an exciting time at the Ministry of Education. We are in the midst of a positive change initiative that's setting a platform for New Zealand's young learners to be the best they can be. Our vision is ultimately about ensuring children succeed personally and achieve academically, so in years to come they are productive, valued and competitive in the world. We want New Zealand and New Zealanders to lead globally.

You will have an understanding of factors influencing achievement and participation for Māori students. You will also have skills and experience in making a direct contribution to Māori and/or Pasifika achievement in English medium primary or secondary schools, and/or in kura kaupapa Māori.

This role will give you the opportunity to work directly with Boards of Trustees, senior leaders and Kāhui Ako | Communities of Learning on strengthening educational performance in schools.  You will be working as part of the Ministry of Education's regional team, using evidence and data on student achievement, and designing and implementing projects with schools to strengthen educational performance.

To be successful in this role you will need:

  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to work with student achievement data to determine needs and priorities
  • Experience in developing and implementing projects
  • An understanding of Ka Hikitia, the Pasifika Education Plan and Success for All and how these documents impact on this work
  • Experience and knowledge of the New Zealand education system
  • An ability to develop strong working relationships both within and outside the Ministry.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • A current full driver's licence is essential.
