Litigation and Research Assistant
Wellington -Strategy, Planning and Governance (SPG) Group
The Ministry of Education's Legal Services Team sits within the Strategy, Planning and Governance (SPG) Group. The SPG group works across the Ministry providing strategic governance, accountability and transparency, communications, stakeholder, legal, risk and assurance, planning and monitoring expertise to ensure the Ministry's work is robust, properly considered and well represented to its stakeholders.
About the role
We are currently looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Litigation and Research Assistant to join the Legal Services Team to assist the Ministry's work on legal matters.
The Litigation and Research Assistant is responsible for offering general litigation, research, and administration support to the Chief Legal Advisor and Senior Solicitors involved in litigation.
You will work closely with the Legal team members as well as external stakeholders including Crown Law and legal staff in other government agencies to contribute to the provision of litigation support and legal research services to the Ministry.
To be successful in this role, you need to demonstrate the following:
- Familiarity with legal research in computerised and paper-based library research facilities
- Strong research, investigative, analytical, logical, and problem solving skills
- Ability to build and maintain strong relationships across a diverse group of contacts
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
- Effective time management skills
- A legal qualification
- Knowledge and understanding of the government legal environment.
